New Feature: Custom Fields for Members
No two cycling clubs are the same. Yet for a long time, club software (yes, also Cyql) has assumed they are. With our international growth last year, we’ve received a steady stream of messages from clubs using Cyql. Different clubs, different countries, different setups, but quite similar requests:
- “We need to store license numbers.”
- “We need emergency contacts per member.”
- “We need to keep track of medical information.”
- “We need insurance numbers for rides and events.”
And followed by: “We’re now keeping this in spreadsheets or separate documents.”
Today, that changes. We’re excited to introduce Custom Fields in Cyql.
Built based on the club feedback
Some features we launch are clear “nice-to-haves”, but this one is a painkiller for those who do the club admin tasks. We built this because clubs kept telling us the same thing in different words:
“Our admin is more complex than your default fields.”
Some clubs are highly structured and work closely with federations. Others are informal but still need safety-related information. Some operate across multiple ride types, skill levels, or insurance setups.
One fixed data model simply does not work for all of them us adding fields endlessly would clutter the experience for club admins.
With custom fields, Cyql adapts to your club, not the other way around.
Custom fields for club and community members
Member administration is where clubs feel the pain most and waste time. Beyond basic contact details, clubs often need to track information for safety, compliance and organization. With custom fields, club admins can now add exactly the member data they need. Examples we’ve heard directly from clubs include:
- License number (Federation correspondence)
- Emergency contact name and phone number
- Medical history or relevant conditions
- Insurance policy number
- Rider type (Road, Gravel, MTB, E-bike)
- Preferred ride group or level
- Address or region
- Membership status
- Volunteer or committee role
- Year joined the club
These fields are visible directly on the member profile, so ride leaders and admins always have the right context when organizing or leading a ride. No more parallel spreadsheets.
Safety, centralization and less admin work
Many of the requests we received were driven by one core theme: responsibility.
Clubs want to be better prepared. Ride leaders want to know who they are riding with. Admins want fewer manual processes and less risk.
Custom fields help with all three.
They make important information easy to find, easier to keep consistent, and easier to act on when it matters.
Members will help keep data up to date
We know that keeping member data current can be time-consuming.
That’s why we’re already working on the next step:
members will soon be able to fill in and update custom fields themselves directly in the Cyql app.
This keeps information accurate, reduces admin workload, and puts responsibility where it belongs.
Flexible, but super simple
Custom fields are powerful, but we’ve designed them to stay simple:
- Club admins decide which fields exist
- Fields can be added to members or rides
- No technical knowledge required
- Works on Cyql Dashboard via the web now (mobile app will follow soon)
You start small, and expand when needed.
Custom fields for rides (coming soon)
Rides themselves often come with just as many edge cases.
What one club considers essential information might be completely irrelevant to another. We are already working on custom ride fields that allow clubs to capture those details clearly and consistently.
Examples of ride-specific fields clubs use:
- Ride leader or contact person
- Target pace (km/h)
- Drop or no-drop
- Maximum group size
- Required equipment
- Coffee stop included ☕
- Weather dependent
- Ride category or difficulty level
- Notes specific to this ride
By making these fields structured instead of free text, clubs create clearer expectations for members and reduce confusion before the ride even starts. More on this soon!
Available now
Custom fields are available starting today in Cyql. If your club has ever said “we need to track X”, chances are you can now do it directly inside the platform.
As always, this feature exists because clubs asked for it. And we’ll continue refining it based on app usage and user feedback.
Your club, your rules, your data, now in one place.
Happy riding 🚴♂️
